I was reflecting this morning on something strange—something that, on the surface, doesn’t seem to make sense.
In a world where rebellion is often defined by breaking free from tradition, where spirituality is now an open marketplace, where ancient practices once rejected are finding new life—there is one path that remains truly counter-cultural.
And it’s not witchcraft.
Not shamanism.
Not the occult.
It’s following Jesus.
Not the safe, sanitized, cultural version of Jesus—the one that fits neatly into institutions or political narratives. No, I mean the Jesus of the Gospels, the one who was so radical, so disruptive, so utterly unlike anything the world had seen, that people either followed Him with their whole being—or plotted to kill Him.
And when you really look at His life… when you see what He stood for, how He moved through the world, how He saw people, challenged systems, and rewrote reality itself—you begin to realize something:
There is no path more subversive, more revolutionary, more powerful than the one He walked.

So what happens when you step onto that path?
What changes in how you see, how you live, how you move in the world?
And what if—just what if—everything you’ve been looking for, that deep hunger in your soul, is already waiting for you there?
Rebellion That Shatters Expectations
To follow Jesus now, in this moment of history, is to walk in direct opposition to almost everything the world says is important.
- The world says seek power—Jesus says become a servant.
- The world says seek control—Jesus says surrender and trust.
- The world says you are the centre of everything—Jesus says lose yourself, and you will find yourself.
- The world says fear death, avoid suffering, build security—Jesus says die to yourself, and you will truly live.
Do you see it? The complete reversal of what is expected?
The Celtic saints understood this deeply. They left behind comfort, power, and prestige—not for suffering, but for something wilder, freer, more real than anything they had known.

St. Cuthbert left behind political ambition for the solitude of the tides, letting the waves themselves teach him how to pray.
St. Brigid rejected wealth to embrace radical generosity, giving away everything and yet never lacking.
St. Columba traded earthly influence for a windswept island, where heaven and earth seemed to touch.
They chose something other.
And Jesus?
He did the same—but He went even further.
The Disruptor of Worlds
Jesus was not safe.
He was not tame.
He was not what people expected Him to be.
“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.” — Matthew 10:34
These are not the words of a man who came to uphold the status quo.
Jesus challenged religious leaders who had turned faith into control.
He exposed political corruption without fear of consequence.
He walked among the outcasts, the unwanted, the broken—and called them family.
And the people in power? They saw Him as dangerous.
Because He was.

Not dangerous in the way the world understands—not through violence or oppression—but dangerous to everything that kept people enslaved to lies, fear, and false identities.
He tore through illusion like a blade through cloth.
He set captives free—not just from outer prisons, but from the chains they didn’t even know they were carrying.
And today, He still does.
So here’s a question.
What would it mean for you to follow Him—not in name, not in theory, but in the way He actually lived?
The Most Dangerous Invitation
To truly follow Jesus today means stepping into something wildly counter-cultural.
It means:
- Breaking free from the illusion that success, status, and wealth will bring fulfillment.
- Walking in radical love in a world that thrives on division and conflict.
- Refusing to bow to fear, even when the world demands it.
- Living with an open heart in a time that tells you to harden yourself.
And here’s the thing:
If you do this, everything changes.

Your perception shifts. You see through the systems, the distractions, the noise.
You stop seeking something “out there” and recognize the kingdom within.
You realize that what the world calls freedom is just another kind of slavery—and that true freedom is something entirely different.
It’s not an escape.
It’s an awakening.
And once you see, you cannot unsee.
Will You Dare to Look?
The path of Jesus is not the easy road. It is not the comfortable one.
But it is the one where chains are broken.
Where the blind see.
Where the lost are found.
Where the hungry are filled.
Where heaven breaks through into the now.

And perhaps—just perhaps—this is exactly what your soul has been waiting for.
The world will always offer new distractions, new ideologies, new movements that promise meaning, power, transformation.
But here’s the question:
What if the answer isn’t something new—but something ancient?
What if the greatest rebellion isn’t seeking another way—but returning to the one that was always there?
There is a whisper, just beneath the noise.
A call, subtle yet insistent.
It has been speaking to your soul for a long time now.
The only question is…
Will you listen?
A Prayer for the Brave

Lord,
Give me eyes to see beyond illusion,
A heart that is unafraid of the narrow road,
And a spirit willing to walk where others will not.
Let me step into the unknown,
Not seeking comfort, but seeking truth.
Let me follow You, not just in words,
But in the radical, beautiful, terrifying way You lived.
And in that surrender, may I finally find freedom.
Amen.
